VIA SAN CIPRIANO

One hot day in August, Emilia’s granddaughter, the eldest of three sisters and a brother, arrives at Balduina, where the four ninety-year-olds live in the same apartment building in Via San Cipriano. Every day they visit their apartments to quarrel and exchange memories, recipes, songs. By now their partners are dead. The children are gone since long gone. Digging between daily life and coexistence, the film compares two generations seventy years later: by investigating its own roots, the director uncovered the lifestyle choices of others.

The glances of four lives lasting over ninety years in an Italy of secularization and modernization are reflected in the gaze of the granddaughter and young director who lives in Berlin since 2018. The story of a neighborhood that was out of town in the 1950s and which today is in the city, the story of women who do not stop in front of the limits and taboos imposed by a rigid society, a story of the twentieth century, of love and defeat, becomes a reality full of present through the eyes of her granddaughter.

The Director

Born in 1990 and raised between Germany and Italy, Lea now lives and works in Berlin. After attending an acting school, she graduated in philosophy and cinema from the universities of Hildesheim and Berlin. In artistic practice she is interested in experimenting contaminations between cinema and philosophy, dealing with issues of place, identity and memory. She has just completed his first feature film, the documentary VIA SAN CIPRIANO, which tells the story of the life of his Roman grandmother and her nonagenarian sisters.
